Question:

Can you get a tattoo over a mole?

So I'm getting a tattoo (next year in Feb, so a while away yet) and I've been thinking about the placement of it...

This is the tattoo I have decided on: http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/011/e/4/Heaven_by_Moosetracks.jpg

I do want to be able to cover it up, and I don't want it on my lower back, so I was thinking on the back of my shoulder...

I have a couple of moles there, and I am wondering if you can get a tattoo over them, or must the tattoo be placed around the moles?

  1. Big negative.

It can cause problems with your skin and the tattoo.

I have a fairly large tattoo on my back, I have a couple moles and my artist went around them.

It doesn't look odd at all.

Go the safe route, and don't let them tattoo over them.

  2. A friend of mine has a full back peice (which looks amazing by the way) he has quite a large mole about the size of say a small finger nail and one or two other small ones. The artist he went to is very reputable and he would not tattoo over them so they have been left as blank spots in the design. As it is a large piece tho it dosn't spoil it at all. If you want somthing small I would advise moving the tatt slightly to avoid the mole however. Or just acept that your tatt will have a unique feature!

  3. YEA YOU CAN! ,but it's going to look a little bit funny

  4. You might be able to orient it differently so it avoids the moles.

Generally, an artist will leave just an outline empty where the mole is. They just leave a blank space, and it generally doesn't look bad.

The thing is, if you p**s moles off, they can sometimes stay bitter a long time and turn into cancer.

Just talk to your tattoo artist, and maybe a few others. Get opinions from a few sources.

I wouldn't tattoo the moles! They're tricky little things.

  5. A good tattoo artist would refuse to tattoo over it, it's not even recommended to tattoo over beauty marks ( my back if full of them and my tattoo artist went around them).

  6. That's a big no-no. Both moles and birthmarks can be filled with blood vessels, making it a very dangerous area to tattoo. Any artist that knows what they are doing are def. not going to go over it.

My friend had a flower done around her birthmark. It actually looks really good.

    Best of luck!
