I was just wondering if you could get a virus or anything bad like that just from visiting a certain website. Not downloading anything but just clicking on the website and browsing through. Also is there any way the website owner can see the IPs that have been on the site? Thanks in advance ;)

  1. Yes. The web site can scan your PC and look for ports that are open.

If you do not firewall or never turn on your firewall, it can download virus to your PC.

  2. No unless you download something from it

  3. You should receive Malware removal support from a site like http://geekpolice.net/ if you have a virus or spyware.

I recommended it because they provide real fast support and a cure is guaranteed.

  4. The server logs that the site is hosted on does infact keep a log of the IP addresses that visit the site.

"Information about the request, including client IP address, request date/time, page requested, HTTP code, bytes served, user agent, and referer are typically added"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_log

And you can get a virus from just having your PC connected to the Internet.

  5. from websites,from e-mail [ forget links inside,just click the e-mail to open ],from images,pictures,videos

  6. You bet.The person who said no needs to have a better understanding of how virus`s work.

  7. yes this is possible for hackers like my teacher in computer he hacks I.P.

sometimes virus can hack you without knowing it. my friend was hack on ragnarok online because of that thingy virus

  8. Yep, unfortunately you can. It is usually from clicking on ads, but links in the site can do it, too. The worst for it are sites for p**n, software or games cracks or keys, and torrent sites (though on these it is more usually included in the download). They can look to see where you are "calling" from, too.

If you are looking at any site that is in any way suspect, always run a good virus and spyware scan afterwards. And make sure your firewall or real-time virus scanning is up to date and active when you browse, as these will catch and stop most viruses before they get in to your machine.

The Yahoo search engine will mark most dangerous sites with a warning for you. Or if you use Spybot (free download and worth having) it has a blacklist of known nasty sites, which it will add to your Registry, so you can't get downloads from them (whether on purpose or behind your back).
