Humane society's and animal rescue centers fix them at two and three months old. The vet that i took my cat to would not do it until he was 6 months old. But whenever i see a baby puppy or kitten at a rescue center, they are already fixed and are only like 12 weeks old. That's only three months! But if i want to get one that's not fixed (for breeding purposes), i cant. By the law of Michigan i guess, if you adopt an animal from any time of shelter, you HAVE to get them fixed to stop the population of them. I love animals! i wish they would just keep on breeding. They used to be wild anyways. They were here before we were....weren't they. We cant just all get fixed to stop the population.

  1. 12 weeks is wayyy to young for a dog to be spayed. They are almost full-grown at 6 months, and that is always the best time to do it. If you arent in a rush, and have your animals best interest at heart, wait until 6 months. A lot of rescue/donations get the animals very young, and only have them for a short amount of time. In certain situations where you will not have access to the animal (like ferals) whenever you want, it is better to just go ahead and get the spayed/neutered when you can.I would never get an animals fixed before 4 months, even though plenty of people say you can.
