Hello,

I want to know if it is possible to become an apprentice pilot for a major airline. I love to fly, but i dont think i will have the required enter score to become a pilot through schooling.

  1. Sorry. No OJT. Passengers are funny about that.

  2. You have to go through school and get all the licenses needed...once the airline hires you..you are the co-pilot..it's not an apprenticeship.

  3. Becoming a commercial pilot has strict requirements.  They don't like it when planes drop in to people's living room.

If you don't think yo have the scores, then it is probably a good think you stay out of the sky (for yourself and the people below you).

But that doesn't mean you can't learn to fly.  I took private pilot training and they make it real easy.  You go at your own pace.

    Good Luck...

  4. You could consider the time and effort required to earn your basic licenses an apprenticeship - but unless you are employed "ab-initio" you will not be paid or compensated until you land that first job.

Many countries hire prospective pilots with zero experience and train them ("ab-initio"). That's sort of similar to the classic apprenticeship.

You could inquire at your national airline (if not US) and see if they hire "ab-initio".

No US airlines are hiring "ab-initio" but you can attend airline-owned academies like DCA and it can increase your chances of reaching their regional airlines following your "graduation". Unlike an apprenticeship, though, you will fork over $100,000 US or so for the training.

    Military training notwithstanding.
