It could be classed as an offensive weapon and as such you could be arrested.

An offensive weapon is any article made,adapted or intended for causing injury.

SEC1 (4) Prevention of crime act 53.

If the police decide then you are intending to use it to cause injury then you will get nicked, it would require a bit of questioning at the scene, if you are wearing base ball clothes, have a glove and a ball then you could be telling the truth and would be ok.

If you do not look legitimate then you are running the risk of arrest.

It is your responsibility to prove on the bounds of probability that you were using it for the intended purpose of playing baseball.

Yes, if the police have 'reasonable cause' to think that you may not be going to play baseball;

If ten of you with bat, balls, mitts, etc., but no criminal records are heading to the park, you'd be OK - If you are walking around at midnight in a hoodie, carrying a bat, and have previous, they may just take some persuading...

i have heard of the police taking baseball bats out of the boots of cars during routine searches in dover docks although the people where going on holiday and said they where going to play baseball while there. The Police did not believe them as they did not remember to pack a ball to go with the bat

Yes you could and most probably will. Why on earth would you want to carry one anyway? Don't think for one minute that the police are stupid. they've seen and heard it all before.

It could be classed as going equipped, also depends on the circumstances, if you are walking through town at 3am in a big group and behaving in an anti-social manner you are asking for trouble and will most definately get arrested.
