I'm from a really small town and I'm finally moving into the city. I will be getting my own apartment. In the apartment there is the plug-in for cable TV. I was wondering (because I don't watch TV) if anyone knew of any cable companies that offerered just the internet service without having to get the television service... or do you need the TV service to operate the cable internet? I'm confused =^D I just don't want to pay for TV if all I want is the internet, yano?

  1. Time Warner offers internet without cable. You do end up getting basic cable if the line is hooked to the TV.  It actually ends up being cheaper to order both instead of just internet.

  2. You have to get at least the basic service. The cable company has to run a signal into the house and the signal is the television one. They wont filter it out for just internet. Look into some of the other options like DSL.

  3. Most cable operators DO offer JUST internet service.  Because of the nature of cable you will probably end up having basic cable if you were to plug it into your TV.

Call up your provider an ask, I know that Charter cable in my area allows you to have only internet service through them.  For a while I had DirecTV for my TV and charter providing my internet service (I have since moved my internet to AT&T DSL)

  4. The first poster is incorrect.  I have had DirectTV for my television and Comcast cable for internet WITHOUT the TV for years.

  5. Why don't you ask the cable company? Why are you asking us?
