You could get service (unless you were out over the middle of the ocean) but most likely you would get some extreme roaming and being within range of multiple towers at the same time, it would 'confuse' the network your calls could be easily dropped. They are illegal to use on airplanes, banned by the FCC because of fears of causing interference with the airplane's navigation system.

  6. i always assumed since people used cell phones during the 9/11 plane crashes, that yes, you could receive service....but that's just what i've heard.

  7. Only when the pilot always you to turn on the cell phone after the  plane has landed....

    Cell phone is suppose to be off while during take off and in the air.

    Safer for the passengers because of all those technical instruments  in the cockpit.

  8. On an airplane, yes ~ just on the on the ground, and at lower altitude even though you are not suppose to be using a cell phone while it is in-flight.

    While it is at cruising altitude NO.  No signal, will just drain your battery.
