I just finished my drivers education, and i believe i saw that a DUI is under the influence of any drug/alcohol. If you take a pill as medicine, and you are drowsy or under some other effect from the medicine that can effect ur driving, will you be charged with a DUI or anything?

  1. Yes, Driving While Impaired or Driving Under the Influence can be any substance that prevents you from alert enough to be a safe driver.

  2. Its possible but once everything is explained you could be released but at the same time there are many medications that state that you should never operate a vehicle so in those cases you could be arrested...............

  3. Yes absolutely.  You will be charged with driving under the influence.  This charge includes alcohol and drugs.  Now once you get to court and explain things, you may not receive as heavy a punishment as say a person drinking alcohol or carrying drugs.  On top of that, if anyone is injured as a result of your charge, you are still open to lawsuits.

  4. Ultimately, if there is a reason that the police stop you for driving inappropriately then yes they could test you for what pills you might have taken.  If you are safe to drive and driving safely, you will never get pulled over and the issue would never arise.

  5. When your doctor prescribes medications, he/she should warn you about driving or operating machinery while under the influence of the medication.  The same warning should be written on the label of the pill bottle.

If you choose to ignore these warnings and drive anyway, then you deserve to get the same penalties as any other drunk driver.

  6. if it affect your ability to operate a vehicle    yes
