Can you get fired if you ask for a raise?

My significant other just got a promotion after 14 months on the job, but he didn't get a raise. When he mentioned it to a supervisor, they said he was working more hours- hence it was like getting a raise- and not to approach the manager because sales are down. If you ask me, that's c**p. Anyone ever asked for a raise and gotten the ax for it? Just curious... because I think he should approach the manager about it.

  1. You can get fired for any reason at anytime that is his call if he wants to push the issue. But if he does get fired he can just get a job at the local mall, at least he will get a paycheck.

  2. Generally, you can get fired at anytime for any reason or for no reason at all.

  3. You can get fired at any time, but if he approaches the manager carefully and respectfully, he should be fine. The manager's opinion of him might actually improve if he makes himself look ambitious instead of just greedy.
