  3. yes, freshwater coral exists. but putting marine coral into a freshwater fish tank is very bad and should never be done (duh). but yup it does exist!!!

    Read through this thread. It's from a diving website, and some very knowledgable people answer, explaining the lack of freshwater coral. Read all the way through it (I believe there are four pages), you will learn a lot on the subject.

    Dead coral affects the ph, but so does live coral. The ph in saltwater tanks is much higher then regular tanks. (well, not MUCH higher, but noticably higher)

  5. According to wiki it is a marine organism, so that means it lives in the sea. So I do not think you will find any freshwater coral.

  7. No there are no fresh water corals.

    Also, they have poly resign corals (look like real corals) you can purchase, they are just not alive and no they are not dead corals either.  They are plastic/rubber, aquarium safe and come in a variety of colors and shapes.  Perhaps that is an alternative for your tank if you are just going for "looks"
