Can you get hard contact lenses even if your prescription says soft lenses?

  1. Rigid gas permeable lenses (RGPs) require a very specific set of measurements because they must be aligned properly with the corneal surface to 'fit like a glove'.  These numbers are not on a soft lens prescription, and your doc would not likely have even taken the measurements if he/she was going to prescribe soft lenses.  You'd have to have another contact lens evaluation with RGPs in mind.  Out of curiosity, why do you want hard lenses instead of soft?

    The measurements are no where near the same. That requires a complete different fitting technique.

    RGP lenses are much more complicated and need specialized fitting.

  3. I agree with the second poster. Why would you want hard lenses? I got a pair years ago and while they provided sharper vision, I never could get used to wearing them. I never stopped feeling like I had something in my eyes.
