The answer to both parts of your question is YES.

You need ovulation to happen in order to get pregnant. However, you can ovulate at any time of the month. In other words, without ovulation, no baby, but there is no such things as a 'safe' time in your cycle. Even if you think you're sure when ovulation's happening, the statistics show that it's not an effective form of b/c.

1st question - No you can not get pregant if there is no ovulation at all, a egg needs to be released in order for a sperm to fertilize it and implant etc.

2nd question - Yes you can get pregnant anytime during the month, it all depends when ovulation is, strangely enough in rare cases some women have even conceived whilst actually being on their period (don't ask me how that one works I don't know - it baffles me too)..

and some women can spontaneously ovulate and have no warning signs, and days of ovulation happening can vary greatly as every women is different.

And last thing to remember is Sperm can live a few days so you could have intercourse say 5 days before Ovulation and get pregnant from that, as the sperm could still be alive on the day of ovulation 5 days after intercourse. so yes it's possible that way, the sperm will survive longer if fertile cm is present especially egcm
