  1. heheheheh in answer to your question, been there done that yes you can!! Some friends and I were out trail riding and my friends are of the sort who like to kick back and relax with beer, me I hate the stuff so I pack water or coke. Anyway we were out riding along the "Greenway" which is a "trail" that winds through  the town my friend lives in. Now mind you no one was drunk off their toosh, they were just swiggin away and happy relaxed, not drunk. . me I'm 100% sober. lol anyway we're riding along and all of a sudden here "bluop bluop" behind us, we all turn in our saddles and ther creeping along the sid eof the greenway slow as all get out it a police cruiser. We stop and so does he. He gets out of the car and come sover and is like "How yall ladies doing today? Enjoying your ride?" We're like yes sir we are how are you, he then starts in on this whole spill about public intoxication and keeps looking at my friends who have saddle bags with a 6 pack in them and one of the girls has a horn bag with a bud light bottle stuck in it. So long story shorter, we (yes even me) were all handed citations and fines and warned to never drink while in public again. If you trail ride on private porperty then they can't say anythign but you hit a public road or trail and you're as good as fined. But please keep it to a very minimum there is nothing more dangerous than drunk people whether it be on horse back or behind the wheel of a  car. I have seen a horse drown b/c an idiot loaded the saddle bags full of beer went trail riding got drunk off his butt and tried to make the horse cross a 12 foot "neck" of a point in a lake, the horse had on a tie down and was so weighted down that he coulsn't swim, the owner was too drunk to figure out how to undo the snap from the tie-down and had to be rescued himself. All i can say is thank god I wasn't with that group. I had no contact with them whatsoever yet that scene still haunts me, we all tried (a group of about 20) to save that horse, but couldn't.

  2. Yes, drinking in public is a crime. So is handling any mode of transportation while under the influence.

I would try it though just to make sure. :)

  3. Many places have open container laws that prohibit you from having an open container of alcohol (and therefore drinking) in public places outside a business or residence. So, probably drinking and riding a horse would get you a ticket. Frankly, why would you want to do this? Your riding judgment and coordination could become impaired increasing the risk of injury to you and your horse. Also, I'd rather keep my hands on the reins.

  4. I am not to sure but you probably will.  My husband was cutting grass in our yard and a cop pulled into our driveway and told my husband that he can get a DUI for drinking beer while he was mowing......he was not even on the road, he was cutting our grass in our yard.  Now how stupid is that

  5. Public Drunkeness and disorderleyness  is still a crime, but you will get much less punishment than driving.

    - Edit-

Actually depending on the officers you might get animal cruelty charges... I am not one of those people but could happen.

  6. Only if you have a motor attached to the horse, please tell me that you aren't attaching a motor to a horse...

The only thing you may need to worry about in public intoxication.  Have fun and be sure to wear a helmet!

  7. Yes you can.  You are in control of a "potentially dangerous" animal (as compared w/a vehicle).

  8. I don't think it would be a DUI, but there's always public intoxication and open container laws...  You have to make the cop suspicious in order for him to stop you...  so take the beers if you want... but don't be stupid enough to wave them around in front of the cop.  You could even put it in a different type of container.  These college boys filled a camelback (it's like a bookbag for water...  it's a pouch that goes on your back that has a straw that you can drink out of)... anyway, they filled it with beer when they went golfing once.

  9. You get arrested for DWI in the state of Illinois.  Check your states laws to see what the penalty there is going to be.
