Can you get rejected from school in Ireland?

I know that sounds like a really stupid question, but I live in California and the way the school system here works is that you need to get a certain GPA to get into the college you want and on top of that you need to have a certain amount of extracurricular activities that you need to have completed and then maybe you'll get into the school, and I'm not sure how it works in N. Ireland. I applied to Queens University Belfast and I'm not sure how one finds out or what happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  1. Hello

It's not always easy to make sense of  other educational systems so it is wise to check out the processes involved.

As Queen’s University Belfast is part of the UK, the application route used is UCAS; see http://ucas.com/students/coursesearch/.  You will find information relevant to non-UK students at http://ucas.com/students/nonukstudents/.  If you want to find out more about this university, have a look at the website at http://www.qub.ac.uk/ (the link to additional information for international students is http://www.qub.ac.uk/home/ProspectiveStu...

You may also find it useful to have a look at the British Council website at http://www.educationuk.org/pls/hot_bc/pa... - you’ll find information on a range of topics including a subject search facility, ‘UK immigration procedures’, ‘living and studying in the UK’ and ‘scholarships’.

If you would like to find out more about the application process to universities in the Republic of Ireland, see http://www.cao.ie/  (for general information) and the handbook at http://www2.cao.ie/handbook/handbook/ind... (information for applicants who reside outside the EU).  If you have any queries that require further clarification, contact details are provided in the handbook.

I hope this helps answer your query and wish you every success with your study plans.

  2. Ah, you mean university. I was confused when you said 'school'.

School is for children. University is not.

If you applied to university in Belfast, surely you applied through UCAS? You just check your status on the UCAS system.

You should have an application number and ID number, and username and password to log in to the UCAS website. They tell you what sort of offer you have been given.

If you are given an unconditional offer, you should recieve a letter from the university to confirm it, and asking you to confirm that you will accept it.

In the UK, extracurricular activities don't matter much at all. Your grades and exam results matter.
