  1. Yes you can. YOur parents have to do this. THey write to the district special education director stating they do not want you to have the IEP anymore.

If the director refuses, there is more action your parents can take. Tell them to call your state dept of education to see what they are suppose to do if school refuses to get rid of IEP.

  2. If your child has an IEP obviously he/she needs it.  I would hope you would think long and hard about trying to remove the IEP.  This is a legal document that PROTECTS your childs rights to the most appropriate education for him/her.  Why would you want to interfer with that?

  3. and IEP does NOT pay for college.  If students are on an IEP and have some more functional needs - it can pay for some course if they are part of a transition program.  Since the IEP covers a student until 21 UNLESS THEY TAKE THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA there are some technical and community college classes that are pretty specific that can be paid for IF YOU ARE IN THE PROGRAM and demonstrate some specific needs.

Check with your childs case manager.

  4. If I were you I would change it to a 504 plan that way your child can take it through college. I have one It's been a big help why do you want to get rid of it?

  5. An individualized educational program is just to get catch the child up educationally so that they can meet the average standards.

if the child has an IEP then he is probably in need of special educational needs and is in their best interests to stay on the program. Anyway, IEPs are usually reviewed and the child is assessed to see if they still need special services.

One way to get out of the IEP is an improvement educationally and behaviorally that meets the average standard.

  6. Why would you want to get rid of it??

They will pay for your childs college education!!

  7. Yes, you can !!!!! All you have to do is request . You do not get free college with it !!! All you get are the modifications and accommodations listed in the IEP until you're 21 These can  can be very helpfull... If you don't want anyone to know,no one has to know !!! ! Teachers and school personnel are suppose to keep this information confidential !!!!

  8. An IEP is supposed to be a fluid document.  You are able to change and modify it all along, according to your child's needs.  Talk to your principal about it.  You should have been given an information booklet when the IEP was first made.  Ask for another if you don't have it.

I wouldn't get rid of it.

  9. Yes, you have to request a legal document stating that you are withdrawing your child's IEP and rights. Be careful, it is hard to get it back again.
