My sister is older and single with one teenage 17 y.o. Son. She has hepatitis C and her Son is Autistic? Will ether of these conditions qualify them for Federal or State funding programs like SSI or Social security disability, or will neither condition qualify?

  1. Her son can qualify for SSI if your sister's income is low enough. He will certainly qualify in a year when he turns 18.

Your sister can qualify for SSDI if she has enough work credits and is unable to work due to her health issues. If she is completely unable to work, or be trained to work in any capacity she might be able to get SSI, but it is doubtful unless she has had Hep-C for a very long time and her liver is shutting down.

  2. as the autism spectrum is so wide-we can't say if he will qualify--if he has marked impairment in his ability to take part in typical activities of daily living--than yes he will qualify for SSI if the fmaily income is under a certain level

some people with autism need medical day care--some work in sheltered workshops--many have mainstream jobs and a regualr paycheck--some even go to college

Hep C depends on teh stage of the illness..

also for autism-there may be services available from the division of developme

  3. in the uk she would at least recieve £98-00/week (income support),Disability living allowance,of the highest ranges possibly £599 a month, carers allowance is £44 a week, but living in with the person you care  is reduced to £22/week.thats just for her, possibly an application based on the special rules would bring more fruitful results.having a disabled child has to be assesed seperatley, and im clueless on that one. Oh a free home, rent paid and council taxes paid in full, all she would have to find is electric,gas-home,telephone bills etc.She would get a badge for her car so she could park almost anywhere.

I just saw the liver shutting down comment,so she is dying? this gets serious attention, She'd be on Severe Disability Allowance, sorry i dont know more about the child side.

  4. Autism can qualify for SSI and Medicaid if the financial and Disability reqirements are met.

Autism can qualify for SSDI and Medicare if the work and Disability requirements are met.
