I have had hives on and off for three months. I have been put on Zyrtec and Zantac. Two mornings ago I wok with hives all over so I went to the ER (my face was swollen too) and they gave me that Epi shot, Prednisone, and Benadryl. I felt better by afternoon. I woke up the next morning with hives all over again but this time my eyes and lips were swollen. My PCP was around so I called and saw him immediately. He put me on more steroids as well as Zyrtec upped to 3 times a day! I have to go back to work as a teacher in three days and I am freaking out! I am scared to go to bed b/c I do not want to wake up like that again. My allergist is seeing me Mon afternoon after work but he did run a few blood tests for allergies already. He said nothing came back unusual except that I have an extremely high allergy to dust! Can a dust allergy make my face swell like that? I have heard it can cause hives too. We cleaned our bedroom today hoping to improve sleeping tonight (and waking tomorrow). Would it be worse at night b/c I am in a dusty room for so long at once (8+ hrs)? I have not changed any meds other than adding Zantac two weeks ago... could that be it? Would a food allergy react almost immediately after consuming it? That is why I am wondering how bad this dust thing is.

  1. What does a forgotten and unheeded dusty broom have to do with your lips?!!

  2. It could also be something your eating, or something maybe in your bed thats irritating you (like the type of pillow you use, bedbugs, etc). I would definitely ask your allergist any other possibilities that can be causing this besides dust. Feel Better :)
