I hear that wooden decking is a real pain with loads of regular maintenance otherwise it goes bad and rots etc. So like windows and doors, is there a uPVC decking you can put down instead?

  1. There is something called “Recycled Plastic Lumber” that comes in the same standard sizes as natural lumber and looks like natural lumber. You can buy the size you need. It can be used for decking, boat docks and to make outdoor furniture.

It is maintenance free, it has UV stabilizers to prevent fading and it will not crack like wood.

Edit: I forgot to mention, it also comes in colors to make it look like wood that has been stained (the color is through the entire piece of “wood” so it will not chip or rub off). I have seen it in green, terra cotta, neutral and different shades of brown.

  2. Wood decking should be power washed with a decking cleaner every three years or so.  Then stained if you want, definetly then sealed.

Yes, I have seen PVC decking, the floor "boards" are done with a rougher finish (slightly bumpy). (Same as tile squares for your bathroom floor).  They are no more slippery than wood when wet.

  3. NO

  4. haven't heard of it. Surely it would be too slippery to be of use. And uPVC is so ugly.
