I've had a recent family emergency and in turn missed a few days of work. I might be getting fired and want to know if I'll be eligible to get my unemployment benefits?

  1. Yes.  Unemployment is for people who get fired or laid off.  Apply immediately, there is a waiting period that doesn't start until you apply.

  2. Depends on what your state will give you for benefits.  You are not eligible for any benefits from your previous employer.

  3. Fired is fired ... if you QUIT you wouldn't get unemployment.

If it was truly a family emergency (believe me, I don't care ... but I've had a lot of employee's grandmother's deaths in my days) you may be eligible for FMLA - the Family Leave Act which would protect your job.

  4. If you got fired, prooooobably not.

  5. If they think your absence was justified.

  6. yes you can collect unemployment if you get fired, laid off or your job moves to a new location.  the only way you can't get it if you get fired is if you were doing some illegal while on the job

  7. i don't think you will be able to collect, check your state guidelines

  8. Doesn't look good. The company could state it was a quit without notice. Any time one quits a job, only under very unusal cirumstances is one eligiable for unemployment benifets. Did you let them know before you left?... did you call in???

  9. Do you have documentation that proves you had family emergencies? If so, absolutely. They should give it to you, and your ex-employer should shut their pie hole and think twice before firing someone over something so silly.
