  1. if you were laid off i'm quiet certain you can collect. You are in college and i'm sure you don't have any other source of income that includes paying taxes. Go apply for your benefits today your are entitled to it.

  2. According to EI, you must be "Ready, able and willing" to work Monday to Friday.  If you are going to school, you must let them know and they MAY decide that you aren't fulfilling that requirement.  (meaning, to them are you going to give up paying thousands in tuition to take a job if it came along-which is what they want you to do)  You will notice when you are doing your reports that it asks if you if you have began any course or school...that is going to flag an agent to look into it.

One thing you can do is see if what you are taking at college would be funded by EI.  In some cases, it can be.  Call Service Canada and find out the local Skills Development part of Service Canada is in your area.  There is a business plan you have to present to them to prove that the education would make you more apt to be employed as compared to not taking it.  Do that ASAP because it normally isnt a quick process.

  3. I believe for you to try to get unemployment that you have to prove that you are seeking another full time job.  Being in college, that might be difficult for you to do.
