Can you get whiplash this way?

A friend of mine says you can get whiplash this way, and I think they're crazy. However, I will check, in case I am wrong.

Situation: You are sitting on a couch, or a chair, and you put your head back fast, like you put your head back so you look up at the ceiling, on the headrest/back of chair. He says that you can get a whiplash from doing this fast, and then when you put your head back up, it makes it worse.

This can't happen, right? Please help. Who is right?

  1. you can give yourself whiplash. my son was just sitting on the couch...when he was 3 and just jerked his head back (tell me why ive got no idea) but we ended up having to take him to the hospital the next day cuz he was soo uncomfortable! so yup, jerkin your head back can give you whiplash.

  2. it wouldn't be easy to do but just like in a car crash a sudden jolt of your neck can cause whiplash. your neck keeps your brain and body talking to each other avoid hurting it

  3. yes. every ones body is different and can injure in diferent ways.
