I want to buy some textbooks to prepare for college stuff.

My major is Economics.

Can any of you (who have gone through college years) tell me the

books you had to have for your economics classes? (microecon, macroecon, game theory, econometrics..etc etc...)

I will really be happy if you distinguish by grade like for freshman, sophomore, junior, senior...

Although I will select answer, thank you a million in advance:)

  1. My 1st year:

Principles of Economics - Gregory Mankiw

    is a wonderful book.

    My final three years:

    Advanced Macroeconomics by David Romer

Microeconomic Theory by Whinston / Green

    Microeconomic Analysis - W.W. Norton

Macroeconomics in Emerging Markets - Montiel

    International Economics - Ingram

International Economics -  Krugman (Krugman is a great author, like Mankiw)

    Strategic Trade Policy - Krugman

    Macroeconomics -  Mankiw

Is off the top of my head. It depends on which electives and certain classes you decide to do, which way you want your career to go. Trade? Development? Government or firm? Private or public?

If you're just starting off, I really recommend he first Mankiw book. Fantastic book.

  2. The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek.

    Nothing else is important.
