Can you give back?

I recently watched "the big give" by Oprah. That show was very inspiring .So yesterday,,,I live in a large city....when coming out of our local 99cent store there was a man sitting with a sign that said he was homeless and hungry could you up please give..i dont give any street vagrants money,,so my husband went back into the store bought him a pack of muffins and gave it to him. As we walked away we could hear him openning the package and start to eat..Do you think we could all do something like this to give back like Oprah..no we dont have a million dollars but i think our one small act of kindness helps ..what about you........................................

I agree with you totally. When I give to someone in need, I feel a whole lot better. I don't look down on anyone in need because they are human beings like you and I. I am sure that man will never forget that act of kindness from your husband. It wouldn't hurt the whole world to do nice things every now and then.

Anytime I get money, a paycheck a rebate or anything, I give a portion of it to a different charity.

I'd recommend reading Bill Clinton's book "Giving" as it is an insightful look all the different kinds of charity and how we, regular people, can serve and be involved.

What i think in these situations that we should think from our mind not from heart.Today I also Gave some pennies to a poor man who was without eyes so I tr to help those who deserve it but not all the baggers and in our part of the world this has became a type of profession

I think what you did was wonderful.  That man was obviously hungry.  You have a gentle, giving spirit.

What you give can make a big difference in someone's life.  I was homeless at one time, living off the kindness of friends of friends or acquaintances.  I can tell you there is no worse feeling than knowing that you don't have any money for food; even as those around you are eating.  You rely on the kindness of others and it is not a good feeling.

Luckily, I was able to change my life and am now in a position where we can give to others like I once was.

I believe in "paying it forward".  For me it is simply what God says is important, "those that have shall give".  

I hope you will take the opportunities as they arise.  Whether it is a sandwich or a bottle of water or a cup of coffee or $2.

Get that man not muffins but some hope, maybe some meds, some self-respect...

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day.

Teach him how to love himself enough to fish, and he'll be off of our streets.
