I never separete anything into High, Middle, or Low Brow.  Instead I look for what I like and it's all of the above an much much more.

Literature:  High: Shakespeare, obscure poetry, the classics (difficult though as everyone wants to have read them.  And Shakespeare was allbrow in his day. ) Booker prize winning stuff.

Middle:  Ruth Rendell, Joanna Trollope,

Low:  Hackie Collins

Painting  High: pretentious modern stuff

Middle:  Van Gogh, Pre-Raphaelites

Low: little boys with a tear running down their faces

Music: High: clasical music

Middle: hooked on classics, Lloyd-Webber

Low: rap, chart toppers, (again, difficult because you get an allbrow element here.

Film:  High: convoluted independed stuff, old classics like noir

Middle: adaptations of classic novels, historical epic

Low: Jackass
