Can you give me a Simple chemical reaction?

Please give me the reaction type:

Something that is safe and you could to at a Junior school.

Stuff that is easy to get to someone who is under 16.

And a reaction that (preferably) you can see.

  1. Baking soda and vinegar

    base/acid reaction

    NaHCO3 + CH3COOH →  CH3COONa + H2O + CO2 (gas)

    baking soda + vinegar → soluble salt + water + gas

    It bubbles, so you can see it.  You can do it in your mouth, so it's totally safe.


  2. reaction of acetic acid  ( a component of vinegar ) with baking soda  produces carbon dioxide gas which bubbles and foams in rhe reaction vessel.

         CH3COOH  + NaHCO3 ---------    NaOOCCH3  + H2O + CO2 ( g )

    This is a neutralization reaction between an acid and base ...it could also be called a double replacement reaction.
