I am looking for a good, thought-provoking philosophy book to read and enjoy. Do you have any suggestions from your experience?

Also, I know this is subjective based upon what I enjoy, but it can be on anything (externalism, etc) just something that you have really found to be a good read.

Thank You!

  1. C.S. Lewis - The Problem of Pain

(it is awesome and easy to read with deep thoughts)

  2. Hannah Erendt "The Life of the Mind."

  3. Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius. It's a guide to the philosophy of Stoicism, and offers excellent advice on how to persevere in the face of great adversity.

Marcus Aurelius was taught the fundamentals of Stoicism by several of the great masters, and later went on to become Emperor of Rome.

Mediations is probably one of the greatest books on self-reliance ever written.

  4. C.S. Lewis alot of his work is very thought provoking.  The Great Divorce is one of his that I love.

  5. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder.

  6. "Truth vs Falsehood" by Dr. David R. Hawkins.  Also "Power vs Force" is a good one.

  7. There is a God. How the world's most notorious atheist changed his mind by Antony Flew.

  8. Angels and demons (Dan Brown)

    Autoboigraphy of a Yogi(Parmahanda Yogananda)

  9. Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard....lots of existentialism

2150 by Thea Alexander....great book on macro philosophy.

  10. Loren Eiseley: start with the Star Thrower and the Unexpected Universe. Very good stuff, naturalism, nature philosophy, some poetry. He blends art and science in a very interesting and inspiring way. He has great insight into the human animal.

    Also, Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire.

Hannah Arendt's Illuminations and also Reflections - they are translated essays of the German-Jewish thinker and literary critic Walter Banjamin. Amazing stuff.

    Enjoy
