  1. One ability necessary of a manager to superviser others is to be an effective communicator.  How can the employee know what's expected if the manager can't communicate what is needing to be done?  Communication skills would be of the utmost importance.

  2. List your expectations as well as the consequences clearly.  Make them short and to the point.  Be CONSISTENT! What goes for one, should also go for another.

List them in a positive manner, avoiding negatives.   For example, if you say "Don't think of a pink elephant"  what will you think of?  A pink elephant.  If a teacher says, "Don't forget your homework!"  Many will forget the homework.  Use 'Remember' when possible.

Give reminders without making them defensive.  "I asked for this to be finished 15 minutes ago.  Remember to stay on task, please."  etc...

  3. One of the example that an ability to manage or supervise others is shown is when your people/group/your company/staff can work even without your presence. This means that you were able to delegate  and communicate tasks to these people properly, precisely and effectively.
