  1. Tip number 1: If you have to ask this question, GET A TEACHER! You'll not learn anything just by asking around on YA. Seriously, if you really want to learn to play violin, get a private teacher.


  2. I also agree with the other answers. Find a good teacher that is willing to work with you. Some only take really advanced students. The teacher can listen to you play something and from there and give you better tips than some anonymous person quite possibly across the globe.

  3. First, you should ask yourself why you want to play. To play any instrument well, you should be able to play musically and most importantly, enjoy what you're playing. I play cello, and although its slightly larger than violin, I can relate. If you're just beginning (as I assume), I agree that you should definitely find a teacher first! But make sure you are willing to commit, because the first couple years your playing may not sound too great! =/ You can also find more ways to enjoy music, such as joining a school orchestra (if you're school age) or community orchestra, so that you can share the music with others.
