  1. hot water.

many years ago i was travelling the backroads in hawaii.

one day we found an old, seemingly abondoned camp ground.

but it still had a working shower.

the water tank was on the roof, and the water temp was really nice.

    and free.

now, i'd not be putting a 500 gallon tank on the top of you, or my, house.

that is, not unless i was intent on creating an elevator shaft for future construction.

on the other hand, there are many systems for providing solar hot water.

and you can take a long shower, and not watch money flowing down the drain.

  2. in my house we turn on the light at night for the little ones this wastes alot of energy you could conect the solar energy to a wire run and run it into your house or save the energy for a black out

  3. I am not sure what sort of thing you want to do with solar power. Are you wanting to collect sunlight and convert it to electricity to run a house? If you want to gather solar power for use I think you do need solar panels.

(Of course, you can also always use solar power to burn holes in paper using a magnifying glass.)

  4. You can always heat your household water with a solar heater.

Maybe a solar cooker for the backyard BBQ.

And since wind is solar powered, you can set up a small turbine for power.

  5. Yep.  Hang your wash out on a clothesline on warm, breezy days.

  6. Plant some bamboo- that stuff grows real fast, up to 4ft in a 24hr period!  Tie some string around the stalks. Work out a system of pulleys and gadgets (you'll have to invent this part) that spin a turbine as the bamboo grows.  Once you work out the details, plant thousands of acres of bamboo and become rich.

Obviously, the solar power part is photosynthesis.

  7. "Passive solar" is the most cost-effective way to use solar energy at home because many of the techniques cost nothing.  The easiest is to keep the windows clean and the blinds open during the winter; doing so can dramatically reduce your heating bills.
