but i heard that this new 80gb one will be backward compatible and play ps2 and ps1 games ?

is this true ?

if so will it have the slots for memory cards for the ps2 or will it save like ps3 games do in the hard drive ?

and should i sell my current ps3 and get this one instead ?

  1. The new 80 gb PS3 is not backward compatible.

If you have a PS2, there's really no need to buy another PS3.  Just use the PS2 to play PS2 games, and the PS3 to play PS3 games.

I have the 60 gb, which can play PS2 games, but I still use my PS2 for PS2 games.

  2. The new PS3 WON'T be backwards compatible. It will be a 40GB version with a bigger harddrive. They are removing the software that allows emulation to once again cut-back the price. I think people need to stop whining about the price. All it does is make the system worse in my opinion.

  3. no it wont play ps2 games, you arent think thinking things through, just play the ps2 games on ps2 and ps3 on ps3

  4. do it for your baby

thats what whooping cough sounds like

  5. New 80GB (comes out now) is the same 40GB PS3 (no PS2 games, no card reader, 2 USBs only). Same goes to upcoming on 31.10.2008 160GB model. Different HDDs, same functionality.

  6. LISTEN TO ME, the 80GB PS3 releeased in europe is the exact same as the 40GB only with a larger hard drive, it does not include PS2 backward compatiblity, *Flash card readers, a chrome trim, super audio CD support, or 4 USB ports, it is not like the americans 80GB that was released in late 2007, just stay with your 40GB PS3 or better get a 60GB.

*IMPORTANT: There are no memory card readers for the Playstation 3, they are flash card readers(which only the 60GB and 2007 american 80GB model have), which are memory cards used in Camera's and one of them in the PSP, the flash cards it supports are Compact Flash,Memory Stick Pro Duo and I forget what the 3rd card is, to transfer games saves from a Playstation 1 or Playstation 2 Memory card you must use a memory card adaptor which is sold seperately and connects to the PS3 with a USB cable. Below are Pictures of the PS3's Flash card readers and a Memory card adaptor.

  7. no it won't have backwards compatibility and can only play ps1 games so it isn't true

it will save in a hard drive well there is no reason to sell your ps3 because it is the same as yours it just has 40 more gbs

so you still couldn't  i do recommend you get a Metal gear solid 4 bundle because that one has exactly what your looking for in terms of ps2 and also if you can find a 60gb ps3

  8. Sorry but the new ps3 is just a 40GB with a larger hard drive, there is also 160GB coming in November its just like the 40GB too.

It will not be compatible with ps2 games, only ps1 games.

There will be no memory card readers.

No, you shouldn't sell your ps3, all you need to do is upgrade your hard drive, there cheap so it isn't that big of a deal.

If anything you need to track down a 60GB which does play ps2 games, but there pretty pricey. They have media card readers and more USB ports. It doesn't have ps2 memory card readers, just ones like you use in a camera, the ps2 memory card adapter has to be bought separate.

  9. PoS3 dumbass, get it right

  10. The 80gb version will have a software emulator to allow it to play the most popular earlier ps titles.  But get with the times, you need next gen, all out, crazy online, next gen stuff.
