Can you give me some ideas about the Theme of "The Scarlet Letter"? please?

It's by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I have one idea so far but I'm looking for other points of view as well

I have not read The Scarlet Letter, but there are a number of on line study guides, and quite a few other resources on the Internet that can help you with this novel.  Most of them have good information.  Have a look at these sites, and you should get some help with your work.  If you do a search here in the Yahoo Answers search window you will find additional help because hundreds of questions have been asked here about The Scarlet Letter.

Hester's A is attached to her outside clothing and thherfore a little artificial, manmade, and false.  But near the end when the preacher falls down dead in the street and they tear open his shirt, he has an A on his chest that appears to be burning its way out from the inside, a more real sign that he was an adulterer and unrepentant.
