Can you give me some information about social workers and what they do please?

I want to study on being a social worker, because that's what I want to be when I leave school, so if you could please give me any information, tips or how it works it would be great help,

Social workers do all kinds of different things to assist families. Some hospitals have resident social workers. They can help locate families of hospitalised people/deceased people where no relatives are apparent. They can help people in hospital or their families handle money and benefit matters, or get help for sick people, such as stairlifts installed etc.

The child protection aspect is obvious, and involves largely helping parents cope where they are having difficulties eg through alcohol abuse etc.

Social workers do a variety of things but the main purpose is to help people to be able to resolve difficult situations.  More and more paperwork is becoming the responsibility of social workers.  Not just case documentation but being sure forms are filled out,compliance for federal funds, grants, etc.   One thing I did not take and have wished I had was a basic accounting course because I see how knowledge in that area is helping others in the field.

My girlfriend is a child social worker. Be prepared to study hard at university and you can do just believe in yourself..good luck.
