I want to go to France for 3 weeks during the summer and I wanted to know where I should go if any of you have been there! I don't want to go on an organized trip but they gave me a couple of ideas. I definitely have to go to Lourdes and the Cote d'Azur (I'm not sure if I spelled it right) but I'd like to organize a trip for about 3 weeks so if you actually make suggestions please keep in mind I only have 3 weeks! Thank you!!!

  1. we stayed in an areas around Cahors..which is kind of central/ southern France.

The whole area is really lovely, with lots of medieval villages all around.

We hired a car ( as we were staying in the country) and saw lots of little villages....places I highly recommend are:

St Cirq lapopie....really lovely and like out a fairytale. On a hill that overlooks the valley below

Rocamadour....amazing sight really, a church literlally coming out of a cliff face.....with a little village...you have to take a lift down to it!!

Autoire....in the general area of Rocamadour, a lovely little village.

There are lots of caves in the area with old rock drawings too and are well worth lookin at.

There are other towns and villages scattered all over the place and a French lady said that even for France this area was lovely.

Highly Recommended!!  You could spend a couple of days in the area sightseeing....we were near the town of Figiac but there are other reasonably sized towns that would be good for accommodation too.

  2. My favorite places in France;

-The Alps, Annecy, Mt. Blanc (which has a cable car) etc. Great even if you don't touch a ski.

-The Med coast. Nice, Monaco (okay, even if that's not technically France), Cannes, great even without the festival (better actually).

-Loire Valley, Tours, Angers, etc. Lots of castles, typically French

-Alsace. Looks like the Europe in fairy tale books. Very strong German influence since it went back and forth over the centuries. Castles, river cruises, etc.

-Normandy & Brittany, beautiful fishing villages, WWII historical sites, great seafood and while the beaches are too cold for my liking, even in summer they aren't so crowded.

-this is actually a suggestion of somewhere I haven't been. The Pyrenees, Lourdes of miracle fame mountain scenery.

Other areas of France I love but am not suggesting just because you only have 3 weeks. I love Provence but for me, it's somewhere to go to relax. There aren't really "sites" to see. Same goes for the Bordeaux region and similar areas further inland. The Champagne region too, is where you would go to do tasting and visit Verdan, the famous WWI battleground. Best to have a car and go with others. I love the Basque region but prefer the Spanish side to the French.

Great places to go but on a sightseeing trip, I would keep to the top suggestion. Remember that France has a great fast speed train system, or TGV, so regions that look further on the map might be easier to reach than you realize!

  3. Apart from what you already mentionned like Cote d'Azur try to explore to lovely Provence more once you're there. Don't miss the Loire Valley with all the great castles, beautyful sceneries etc. Will 3 weeks be enough - I doubt it but enjoy the maximum!

  4. Pars,Versailles,Mont Saint Michel(i'd recomend staying the night and touring it at night), castles(Chambourd), The Alps...just to name a few!

  5. loire valley and casttles.you can visit citys of Tours.Angers & Nantes .Very nices places.
