  1. 1.The human heart is shaped like a Cone

The human heart is shaped like a cone. The narrower end of the heart points down and to the left side of the chest. In an adult, the heart weighs about three-fourths of a pound and is about the size of a fist. Major arteries, such as the aorta and pulmonary arteries, connect at the wider upper part of the heart. If arteries become clogged with cholesterol and other fatty deposits (atherosclerosis), you may have a heart attack or stroke.

    2. How many times does the average adult heart beat per minute?

An average adult heart beats about 70 times a minute. The hearts of superfit athletes, however, may beat as slowly as 40 times a minute. That's because their hearts are larger and can pump more blood with each heartbeat. You don't have to become an elite athlete to reap benefits from exercise, though. Moderate exercise most days of the week can tune up your heart, too, reducing the risk of such conditions as high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.

    3. If your heart muscle is weak and can't squeeze as hard, it's likely to:

If your heart muscle is weak, it can't pump as hard. To compensate for its inability to pump out the normal amount of blood, your heart may enlarge (dilate). It could eventually enlarge so much that it fails to function normally.

    4. The "thump, thump" noises heard through a stethoscope when listening to your heart are the sounds of:

    Your heart valves closing

The "thump, thump" sounds heard through a stethoscope come from your heart valves closing after blood has passed through them. Valves are strong, thin leaflets of tissue attached to the heart muscle. The heart's four valves keep blood flowing in one direction.

    5. Taking a walk or working in the garden doesn't do much for your heart.

    False

Jogging and other vigorous physical activity clearly benefit your heart. But even simple exercise like a brisk walk or pulling weeds in your garden strengthens your heart. The key to getting some heart-healthy benefits from walking or other simple exercise is that you do it consistently. The American Heart Association recommends getting 30 minutes of exercise — even if it's just a brisk walk — on most days of the week. Even short 10-minute walks that add up to 30 minutes count. Gardening and housework (vacuuming or other physical work) count, too!

    6. The heart muscle propels blood to your body and lungs by:

    Squeezing

The heart propels blood by squeezing it out of the powerful ventricles into the arteries. The squeezing action is produced when the muscle fibers that make up the walls of the heart shorten (contract). With this contraction, the ventricles become smaller, forcing the blood out.

    7. What is the main purpose of the heart's two atria?

: Receiving blood from the body and lungs

The atria are small receiving chambers for blood returning from the body (right atrium) or from the lungs (left atrium). They push the blood into the ventricles with a rather weak contraction. The two ventricles are the main pumping chambers. The right ventricle forcefully pumps blood to the lungs, while the left ventricle pumps blood to tissues and organs throughout the body.

  2. the circulatory system is one which transports blood to different parts of the body

The circulatory system is an organ system that moves nutrients, gases, and wastes to and from cells, helps fight diseases and helps stabilize body temperature.

The main components of the human circulatory system are the heart, the blood, and the blood vessels. The circulatory system includes: the pulmonary circulation, a circulation through the lungs where blood is oxygenated; and the systemic circulation, a circulation through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood.

  3. i could give some of the things i know about circulatory system.

    - it acts as a transport system

    - most of the system of our body depend on circulatory system

    - it consists of heart, blood vessels, and blood that circulates blood throughout the body, delivers nutrients and other essential materials to cells, and removes waste products.

    - it is also called Cardiovascular system

    - portions of CS > systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation

those are te things that i remember on this system..sorry..

  4. Here are ten facts about the circulatory system:

*The circulatory system is one of the most important systems in the body.

*The circulatory system brings nutrients and blood around to all the working cells in the body.

*Transports oxygen from the lungs to the cells.

    * Carries carbon dioxide, a waste product of cell metabolism, to the lungs where we breath it out.

*Transfers digested food materials and minerals.

    * Transmits heat, regulates body temperature.

    *Fights off diseases and infections.

    *The  circulatory functions blood

    --------------------------------------...

The heart is the muscular pump like organ that circulates blood through the body. The muscles of the heart contract periodically and cause the heart to pump blood. The heart contracts about 72 times a minute when an adult person is at rest, but this rate increases to 100 or more during activity or excitement. The total volume of blood in the system is about 5 to 6 litres. The heart pumps approximately 5 litres of blood out every minute.

  5. Well, I just got done studying this material last year, and I keep all my notes, so let me go get them. Got them! Let's see what I have here...

These are some major parts of the most important part in the Circulatory System, the Heart.

Also, let me know if my spelling is off!

    1. Right ventricle

    2. Left ventricle

    3. muscle wall

    4. left atrium

    5. right atrium

    6. Pulmonary arteries

    7. Pulmonary veins

    8. Aorta (not really sire if I spelled that right :) )

I know that is not ten, but by using my information AND some other facts you get, you should have enough!

  6. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

  7. 1.Veins return blood to the heart whereas arteries take blood away.

2.Blood is not blue the way some believe.

3.There are 10 major places to check the pulse: Superficial temporal artery, common carotid artery, facial artery (head and neck), axillary artery, brachial artery, radial artery (arm), femoral artery, popliteal artery, dorsalis pedis artery, posterior tibial artery (leg and foot)

4."Shock" is a decrease in blood volume.  There are several types including hemorrhagic, plasma loss, heurogenic, anaphylactic, septic, and cardiogenic.

5.A blood vessell is made of 7 layers divided into 3 sections.  Tunica media (innermost), Tunica intima (in the middle), and Tunica adventitia (outermost).

    6. Veins having diameters greater than 2mm contain valves that allow blood to flow toward teh heart but not in the opposite direction.

    Hope this gets you started
