all of Dan Brown's books are amazing.

you could probably classify harry potter as action also.

and if you like medical thrillers (which can be action/mystery/suspense) tess gerritsen is incredible!

For a book on war I would very much recommend Jeff Shara's writings, especially To The Last Man.  However, these are not all "action-packed," since they include military strategy, politics, etc.  If that is what you like it is very good.  If you're just looking for lots of action, I'm not sure... maybe the Bourne novels but I don't know how long they are.
