Reflect, you are in GWS ! I don´t mean arguments like if a man has an ugly family name, he should be happy to take his wife´s name.

  1. No I can't...

Women should take the husbands last name.

  2. "Should?"

Because he's a fugitive, an illegal, a serial criminal...

  3. All in all it doesn't matter. It's up to the couple what name they agree upon. Who cares really?

  4. No, it's entirely up to the couple. It's shouldn't be considered mandatory for either person to take their spouse's last name. Whatever the couple wants to do.

  5. Because it's an old tradition which doesn't mean anything? So many peopel follow traditions and don't even know the meaning of them so what is the point of following them?

My husband and I BOTH changed our names, completely merged without any hyphernation.

It was so romantic completely joining names and being the only 2 people in the wolrd to have that name.

  6. Because the guy is a v****a.

  7. Well, maybe he's closer with her family than with his own. Or he doesn't have any good reason for her to take his name.

  8. I have mixed feelings on this as a genealogist and keeping the names make things a lot easier.

My partner and I plan to hyphenate our names when we get married.

  9. Here are a few reasons:

    1. He's estranged from his own family and doesn't want to carry around that reminder.

    2. He doesn't like his father.

    3. He has a very common last name and wants something more unusual.

    3. His initials as they are right now, spell out a very unfortunate word. Examples are "F.A.T." or "P.I.G.".

    4. His last name is very difficult to pronounce or spell.

    5. His wife might come from a very prominent family and he adopts that name as a way to increase his social status.

  10. I don't really see why either person should have to take the other's name.  A man taking his wife's last name is just as ridiculous as a woman take a man's last name.  It's an outdated tradition that needs to go.

  11. Well in other countries its custom for the bride and groom to each receive each other's last name because it shows that they both belong to each other. Rather than one belonging to the other.

  12. 1) B/c he just wants to

    2) He doesn't like his last name, and doesn't want his kids to get made fun of for it

    3) He wants to show how much he loves his wife

    4) He wants to be daring and different.  Some people get pleasure in doing something unique.

  13. Because he wants to. That's all anyone needs to know.
