I am going to visit some friends and I want to go barefoot. I have to catch a train to town and then and a bus to their house. Is wearing bare feet allowed?

  1. if i think i can,i will

  2. I ride public transportation all the time and they require shoes otherwise I would be barefoot sometimes if I am wearing flip flops I will sit in the back and take them off some other people do to

  3. guess it would depend on what transit company you used.  I've seen people get on the bus barefoot in different cities.  Probably might not hurt to take along a pair of flip flops in case they said something.  Nothing they could really say if you were standing at the bus stop waiting barefoot though I wouldn't think.

  4. maybe but what would you if someone stepped on your foot?

that would hurt also what if they was broken glass on the street

and you stepped on it? ouch again

some transit agencies might not allow it other might

  5. Depends on the train and bus company. In the US, some have a policy, others do not. I know here in the Netherlands it's no problem, neither is it in Belgium and Scotland (going barefoot isn't a problem here ever, really), but I haven't kept a list of the US bus companies I've seen other barefooters post about since I have plans to travel there in the foreseeable future.

From what I heard, a lot also depends on the driver; even in areas where the company has a policy, some barefooters report they often can get onto the bus without trouble -and others who live in an area where the local bus company doesn't have a policy have taken to carrying a print-out of that policy because some bus drivers who dislike bare feet have tried to refuse them anyhow.

About glass or getting stepped on; feet aren't as weak as most people who regularly wear shoes think, especially if you're always barefoot. I am not a morning person so I'm frequently at a dead run at the train station, and there's always litter, often including broken glass. I get a tiny splinter maybe once a year and in eleven years, I've NEVER had a cut. As for people stepping on my foot, I also travel in rush hour so we're often packed like sardines. Sometimes people step on my feet, so what? I had a tiny scratch once, that is the only damage in all those years. Besides, many people wear flipflops in summer, which don't exactly provide protection to anyone stepping on your toes. I do avoid women in stiletto heels but getting stepped on with a regular shoe doesn't even make me look up from my book or paper.
