In Kuala Lumpur you can do free fishing in the sea, you can even find numerous disused mining pools and ponds on the outskirts of the city such as in Ampang, Batu Caves, Kepong, Gombak and Puchong. Where you can cast your lines, for free, but there the chances of a good catch are very rare, unless you are adebt in fishing. Ponds and lakes in public parks such as Lake Titiwangsa, Lake Perdana, and Tasik Permaisuri (in Cheras) in the city are out of bounds. You cannot Fish there and if you are caught fishing you will be fined heavily. However, there are some particular fishing periods, such as City Day, when the KL City Hall organises fishing contests in public lakes. Otherwise, you can't fish there, no matter how tempting it might be to you.
