I'm going on a Royal Carribean Cruise. I read that some restaurants have a dress code, like formal, casual, etc. I plan on packing light, like shorts and tee's. Will I be able to go into a restaurant that requires you to dress formal, etc. ?

  1. RCL dress code for dinner meals means no shorts or tee shirts after 6 PM (some say 5 PM).  Men wearing a jacket but no tie are allowed to dine on formal nites.  I saw, on my last cruise, 2 men with no ties or jackets try to enter dinner on a formal night and were escorted out by the Head Waiter.  If you don't want to take formal clothing, on formal nights, dine in the Windjammer Cafe on the upper decks.  While I dress formal, I sometimes dont like the formal dinner meal and will visit the Windjammer instead.  Lots of people do that.

  2. cruises are accustomed to informality but you may wish you had taken trousers and shirts as well so don't feel out of place.  business casual is nice

  3. I didn't have any nice clothes for the 2 formal nights which made me feel kind of out of place, but the rest of the nights, I felt fine in shorts or jeans.  No one is going to tell you you aren't allowed to eat dinner if you aren't in the right clothes (on a Disney cruise at least), but you should bring formal clothes so you don't feel out of place.

  4. On our last Princess cruise, they turned people away if they weren't dressed properly.

So I doubt you'd get in.

  5. I have been on over 20 cruises with 3 different lines and I only wear jeans and have never been refused service. It is your vacation and you should dress how you feel comfortable. If others do not like what you are wearing then they do not have to look. That simple. In Europe women can go topless on beaches but, here they get arrested. There are plenty of nude beaches in the US but, folks try to forget that. As long as everything is covered & clean go wear what you want & ENJOY.

  6. Don't set yourself up to be embarrased. Proper attire is required.  On most cruise lines you can go to breakfast in the dining room with short, etc. on. However, at dinner shorts are a no go.  Also you will stick out like a sore thumb on formal night.  While you dont have to get formal like your going to the prom at least bring one lightweight  no fuss dress/ or pant set. Or choice to eat at a different location on the ship.
