Im currently 38 weeks, I went to doctor last Friday & she told me I was 80% effaced, (the same as the week befor) & that i haven't dilated any yet. She told me that I'll probably go to my due date & wouldn't see any signs of labor with in these 2 weeks, but can you not be dilated & still go into labor?

Thanks, first pregnancy & waiting for my son!

  1. Yeah, I was not dialated or effaced at all...my baby dropped, water broke about 2 hrs later...and I was in the hospital for 24hrs before the baby was born cause I was not dialating! and this was exactly 1 wk before my due date.

  2. yup at least i think so =)

hope you have a healthy baby boy <3 gd luck!

  3. My cousin went into labor, and she was not dilated at the time.  Good Luck!

  4. Yes you can it is very common to start contractions before you are dilated at all..Remember contractions are what cause dialation!

  5. I was dilated 4 cm for almost 2 weeks and I felt nothing during this.  Maybe some slight pains down there once in a while, which could have been dilation, don't know, at the time I didn't really think about it.  It's also common for women to go into full labor, go to the hospital in a lot of pain, and they are only 1 cm dilated or less!  That happened to a friend of mine.

  6. Being dilated, or not dilated at 38 weeks means nothing.  Some women walk around dilated 2-3 cm. for weeks  or months.  Other woman are shut tight and go into labor the same day.  Once you DO go into labor, that's when the serious dilation starts.
