Question:

Can you go to a pool or walk around the beach and work as an Amateur Lifeguard?

or is that illegal? What if you try to save someone when they aren't really drowning... What if they look like they are? Can they sue?

  1. You really don't want to play that game. You are dealing with peoples' lives here. There is no such thing as an Amateur Lifeguard. The persons have taken all the necessary life saving courses (plus, of course, all the swimming badges necessary).


  2. depends...i know at the ymca you can take a 2 week course and become a junior lifeguard....

  3. yes and no. this is America, anyone can sue for anything, they might not win, but it is generally not worth the hassle. If you want to be a lifeguard. take a class on cpr (usually 4-8hrs) at your local community college. then apply at a local pool/ymca/city etc. They are always hiring. If you like it, this can turn into a very great profession. emt/paramedic/firefighter/nurse/doctor
