  1. They can do a Day 21 Progesterone level which tells whether or not you just finished ovulating (telling you if you ovulated that month).

  2. There are a few methods. The progesterone CD21 test is the most common. If you get a daily level of over 10 then you're ovulating normally. Sometimes they'll test for 3 consecutive days and then average the numbers (ie: you need to get 30+ over 3 days).

An internal ultrasound will also show ovulation (way more expensive!!!) and the timing can be tricky. If you're there before ovulation, you'll see the mature follicles etc, and if you're there afterwards, you'll see where it happened, but as it can occur in a matter of seconds, that's hard to pinpoint.

But I would start with OPKs from the grocery store or find them online. Way cheaper all round, even if you have long cycles. They will be $20 for a kit (should last one cycle) instead of lab fees etc.

Finally, there's the totally FREE and reliable method of charting your morning temperatures. If you get a reliable temps spike in your BBTs for 3 cycles in a row, you're ovulating for sure. Doctors will use this method as hard-and-fast evidence, so it's worthwhile trying for a bit (otherwise they might send you away to do it anyway!!!)

    Good luck :)

  3. You can have blood work done to determine if you ovulated or not.  It's not something that they can help you with when it comes to determining if you're about to ovulate.
