Can you go to the emergency room for a severe toothache?

No dentists can see me today and the pain is truly unbearable.

  2. You can, don't know if they will treat you - but they may have a dentist on emergency call they can put you in touch with.

Of course you can go to an ER for a severe toothache.  Believe it or not an abscess tooth can be life threatening if not treated properly.  An abscess can form in a capsule like way and surround the heart and you can actually die from this.  I have seen it happen one time and the patient was treated with IV antibiotic therapy and still developed the abscess around his heart.  He had surgery and he was 26 years old and survived the incident.  He would have died though he was told if he had waited 24 hours longer.  Most people with severe toothaches have an abscess and all the pain medication will not offer relief.  An antibiotic injection and then antibiotics is what they need.  Over the counter Motrin will offer as much pain relief.  So yes go to an ER if the pain is that severe and get started on antibiotics.  Then FOLLOW-UP with your Dentist and have your teeth taken care of.
