I'm planting an entire garden of hens and chicks and am wondering if the echeveria can be outside all year round in Minnesota.

Thanks!

  1. I'm in the deep south, and I have loads of echeveria. Of course, being in the south makes it easier for me to keep outdoors in the winter. But I have found that it has died back from time to time when we've had harsh winters and it was extremely exposed.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to keep it in Minnesota during the winter, due to the ground freezing in winter. The roots may survive the freeze, even with extreme mulching. It may be possible to place some type of small greenhouse type device on it, but I'm thinking you'd have a hard time wintering it in Minnesota.
