  1. There are so many lettuce fields along the Rio Grande that grow lettuce practically year-round.

Lettuce likes to grow in cool climates, so for your area spring and fall are ideal growing times.

  2. South of Houston is one of the great places to grow all kinds of lettuce, especially  "European" or Baby Lettuce or Leaf Lettuce.. Lettuce loves the heat and humidity of East & South Texas. Lettuce makes a great spring, summer and fall growing vegetable. It's best to plant by seed or "starter" plants (six pack containers) every few weeks to insure continuous availability for weeks and months of the year.

  3. I've grown lettuce, radishes, peas, broccoli, cabbage and arugula in late fall in the Austin area, but I usually have to wait until October/November.

These are cool weather crops.  If you grow them in hot/warm, weather, then you'll find them bolting (starting to sprout seeds instead of leaves) before you ever get any sort of a crop.

South of Houston on the coast, I would wait uuntil the daytime temps are consistently below 75 degrees and nights start hitting the low 60's.  This usually happens around October/November.
