Can you grow plants in perlite?

I bought a plant online and it came in a container filled with perlite. But its had so much shipping stress i was wondering should i transplant it? I dont think the plant can recover in a perlite container.

  1. You can do the hydroponic systems but they tend to be more on the expensive side. Depending on the plant, I would take some of the perlite out and use a mixture of perlite, peat, and potting soil.  I would go ahead and try genly transplant it and keep it out of sun for about 24 hours.  Keep the soil moist and your fingers crossed.


  2. Yes you can, it's called hydroponics. You must circulate a nutrient solution through the perlite. You can google "hydroponics" and either buy or build a system to recirculate the nutrient-filled water through your perlite container.

  3. Plant that sucker as soon as you can. Google the plant so you know beforehand how to care for it.

    It will not grow in perlite alone. Simply a medium for shipping.
