  1. why not? they use frozen sperm etc.  you would need an incubator.  being cold wouldnt harm the chick, but the heat would destroy the genetic information.

  2. Yes, but its not a wise idea. You are sure to get a very poor hatch rate and their have been many reports of deformation of the chicks hatched from those eggs. Its not a good idea, they are not meant for hatching, they are meant for eating. People swear that fertile eggs taste better, so they sell them.

ETA: I am surprised that no one one here knows that the sell specially marketed fertile eggs in grocery stores. They are not the same as the normal eggs.

  3. Most store bought eggs are NOT fertile. You would have to go to a farm to get fertile eggs. Also the temperature wouldnt be appropriate. The eggs in the cold room wouldnt make it because the temperature is below 60 degreees.

Go to a farm and buy some of those eggs.

  4. I'm a little confused by "store-bought".  The only ways I'm aware of buying fertilized eggs are through hatcheries, private breeders and online at egg-bay.  If you are trying to get eggs from the store, they are definitely not fertile and won't hatch.  Eggs from the grocery store are actually usually several months old by the time they are purchased (!!!)

I do know some people who have had luck buying eggs and incubating them, but it is buyer beware on most of those.  A friend of mine bought some geese eggs at a swap meet last year, and they all hatched - and not one of them were a breed he wanted!

Look for a reliable and trusted source if you plan on buying eggs for your incubator.
