Can you have a different dentist continue working on your braces if you need to get a new dentist?

To make a long story short I don't want to continue to get my braces adjusted by the dentist who put them on. I NEVER want to go back to their office.

The dentist had no gloves on and he stuck his finger in my mouth and touched my tongue , he talks dirty , and asks x rated questions, the neighborhood is in a bad area where there is crime, drugs, graffiti, theft, etc etc....I spent about an hour crying after the way I was treated at their dental office, it was scary. The only problem is , that is the dental office that put my braces on and they do the adjustments, I mean, can I just walk into another dentist's office and ask them to let me be one of their patients?

  1. Hi, well the first thing I would do is file a complaint with the dental association for his unprofessionalism, and boarderline sexual harrasment(asking x****d questions).  Next thing I would do is check with your insurance to see what their guidelines are as far as switching drs.. they are usually ok with it but it has to be approved by them first.  Next thing call a couple of orthodontists in your area and see if they are willing to take you on as a patient explain that you have all the hardware you are just in need of adustments and removal when the time comes.. Some orthodontists will take you up others have their own office guidelines.. good luck

  2. First...you need to report that dentist. Big time.

Second...you can go to another dentist/orthodontist to fix your braces but you'll need to ask them if they can get your records from your old dentist or do you have to get them. A new dentist who takes over an ongoing treatment needs to have all your records and xrays. Sometimes a the dentist you choose to go to will have their office ask your old dentist's office for the records. Sometimes, you have to do that yourself and bring the records with you to your new dentist. at the old dentist, you will have to sign something that says other people can have access to your records. It's a privacy law. If you get the records yourself and say "they're for my personal use" you may have to pay a little to get them copied off but it will be worth it. Make sure you get all xrays and that sort of thing.

  3. It might be difficult for you to get another orthodontist to take on the case. Don't let that discourage you.  And I would report this guy. My son decided to go to school far away and we had to get him a new orthodontist.  It ended up costing almost as much to change as we had already paid!  I still think that was handled poorly, but if you don't have your teeth properly handled in ortho you run long term risks that can lead to the premature loss of your teeth. So, if you can't find anyone who will take over your case as it stands then maybe you need to take a male friend or relative with you when you go.  And just be BOLD and tell the dentist to GLOVE! If he refuses report him again, and again and again if you have continued trouble.

Wish I could help you more.  There are scum people in every field. Sorry you had to run in to one of them
