  1. You never lose your American citizenship unless you specifically renounce it. Becoming a citizen from another country does not make you lose your American citizenship.

You can always have dual citizenship as long as the second country does not require you to renounce your previous citizenship (in your case American).

  2. Two of the answers are wrong. The US certainly does NOT allow dual citizenship. To become a US citizen one has to take the oath of allegiance to the United States, which would be impossible for a person who had citizenship of another country. On aquisition of US citizenship, it is assumed you have given up whatever else you may have. In fact, a person found to be a citizen of another country can be deprived of his US citizenship and deported. Quite right too. Check it out.

What do you mean you want to move somewhere else? You can't just decide to move to another country. You first have to find one that will allow you to, which is very few.    Also, just because you go to another country does not mean you have to be a citizen there. In fact, unless you already have a claim to citizenship through parents, you would probably have to wait years before you had the the chance to become a citizen of any other country. Besides, the only peopleI ever heard of giving up their US citizenship were SPIES for Russia etc. Of course there could also be a few that were crazy.Don't do it. Especially not to Algeria, unless you are not worried about the terrorist bombs and shootings.

  3. some countries do not recognize dual citizenship so it depends what country you choose

  4. John 666 is incorrect.  The US does not encourage dual citizenship but it does not ban it.

  5. Depends on the country. The US allows Dual citizenship while other countries do not. You would have to check on a case by case basis.

  6. You can move anywhere and retain US citizenship.  But see the link before accepting foreign nationality.
