  1. no, unless u make a temp chimny, as u require the dangerouse gases from ur fireplace to exit the room, one of these gases is carbon monooxide which is if inhaled too much casue life loss, it got no smell or color.

  2. Yes you can, in the UK at least. Its called a 'balanced-flue' system. The Boiler or fire has to be fixed to an outside wall, a hole is knocked through and a short flue  fixed in place and all made good. If you look around, you will see lots of them installed, just a short stainless steel cap sticking out of a wall, and gently steaming in cold weather !

  3. Yes you can. You can even have one on an inside wall, but it must have a pipe running to the outside of the house to take away the carbon monoxide fumes.  The pipe has to be a regulation distance away from an opening window. Phone your gas company and they'll advise.

  4. You really need to contact a corgi registered installer, carbon monoxide (caused by burning gas is a killer). get some proper advice

  5. You can get flueless gas fires which you just hang on the wall. They have a catalytic convertor built in which burns off all the products of combustion,BUT you will require additional ventilation (air brick) of at least 100 square cm.B&Q sell them from about £400-£600 and they look like flat screen tv's.

  6. If you have a gas stove, the range hood is considered a "Chimmney",and a gas furnace has an air insulated flue pipe that is 3-4 inches in diameter as a "Chimmney" for exhaust gases. It doesn't have to be masonry or very large. If you want a gas fire place, there are ventless models, but they warn of carbon monoxide buildup from combustion gases.I wouldn't chance it.All devices with gas should be vented for safety.Contact the gas company and see what they reccomend. It's in their best interests to keep you safe.

  7. Yes but you will of course need some form of ventilation. The avice is have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing, not someone, "our billy knows who does that sort of thing"

  8. Yes. There are vent-free gas appliances which requires no venting of any sort (chimney or direct vent to an outside wall). It has an O2 sensor which allows it to operate so efficiently that it does not require any sort of venting. Once the oxygen in the air becomes insufficient,  the sensor detects it and shuts down. However, if you have allergies, these tend to makeit worse because they do leave behind some products of combustion.

  9. A gas fire can be fitted without a chimney or chimney breast as long as it is fitted to an OUTSIDE wall by a qualified gas fitter, the installation must include an external vent to remove the gasses during composition.

  10. Yes you can - we did but it has to be on an outside wall. When we moved in the fire that was there stopped working so we called in a professional - he immediately condemned it as unsafe! We had a new one put in with safe ventilation. You must get a professional gas fitter to do the job.

  11. Yes, you can so long as it is on an external wall or close enough for external venting.

  12. You can have a "Balanced flu"  gas heater.  It is fixed to an outside wall and the fumes go striaght outside.  I am not sure if it classifies as a "fire"  ask at your local fire dealer and look on the internet.

  13. Yes. There are fires on the market which can be flued direct to an outside wall.

  14. yes, if you have a gas range (stovetop), or anything else in teh house that is gas powered.
